A little background: Our busiest time of the month (barring major system problems) is the first 6 business days because we produce a multitude of reports to let the client(s) know how their systems are performing. The two most senior people of a particular platform (not the one I support) are on vacation right now. So as Murphy would have it, all these reports are due and the data collectors have decided to malfunction making producing the reports impossible until the data is recovered. Add to that there are some other system problems occurring that need attention right away. Employee left behind: You know it's been pretty hectic trying to get all this done and take care of the problems too. Manager: Yes, but make the reports your priority. ELB: OK. You know, it probably isn't a good idea to have both those guys (the two most senior analysts) away on vacation at the same time. Manager: So, what do you want me to do about it? Tell them. Hello? Isn't that part of a manager's job to manage the vacation schedule to ensure there are no impacts to deliverables? I guess her part in this is to create the spreadsheet to post outside her office of the vacation schedule...oh, and to choose the pretty colours for each employee on the spreadsheet. I guess not. That is now our responsibility also.
